Red Rose blooms in Melbourne

6/10/2008

TOM Smith may have scooped Lancashire’s Young Player of the Year award last week, but he was outshone with the ball by wicketkeeper Gareth Cross on Saturday!

The Old Trafford gloveman shook off the jet-lag to claim 4-41 with his 10 overs of medium pacers for St Kilda in their opening game in the Victoria Premier League, while Smith, who has joined him at the Melbourne-based club, took 2-20 from eight overs.

They both failed with the bat, however, with former Clifton player Cross making a duck and Chorley’s Smith just two in the defeat to Ringwood.

Former Lancashire captain Mark Chilton was also in the wickets in the same league, claiming 1-27 from his 10 overs in Melbourne University’s victory over North Melbourne.
