Jones eyes Shakers run

MIDFIELDER Mike Jones believes continuing to grab the first goal could be crucial to Bury's promotion hopes this season. The Shakers have failed to win just two of the 10 games in which they have opened the scoring, and none of their eight league and cup defeats have come after taking the lead.

Jones headed a 35th-minute opener at Accrington on Saturday with Brian Barry-Murphy doubling Bury's lead just three minutes later and Alan Knill's men stood firm to secure a comfortable 2-1 victory.
