Guardiola handed Blues trial
10/ 8/2005
MANCHESTER City have handed Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola a week's trial.
Guardiola has recently been playing in Qatar for Al-Ahli, where he won the player of the year award last season, report City's official site.
The 34-year-old spent 17 years at Barca and after spells at Roma and Brescia it appeared Guardiola was ready to finish his career in Qatar.
However, Guardialo, who has won 43 caps for Spain, could yet see another year of top-level action as the Blues search for midfield creativity.
Would you like to see Guardiola at City? Have your say.

Mirror has just reported we've nicked Giannakopoulos from Bolton for 1M. If it's true, while some may complain about him being another over 30, he was a big part of Bolton getting into Europe last year and is just the right kind of player we need for little money (scored 8 goals as well from midfield - not bad in a long-ball team). Malbranque didn't want to come so let's drop it. You have to say that SP has done very nicely with 3M in spending so far, leaving money for maybe one more signing in the next couple of weeks, and plenty left over for January. With new signings, players returning from injuries, youth team graduates, and SP driving them for the whole season, you have to say we look like a better team this year with some balance and competition. No reason we can't compete for Europe again - not likely top 5, but there's no reason we can't make 6th. Come on you Blues!

The question is on whether Mr G will make the grade? Comments returned have ranged from whether he is too old to the policies of Company Management of the Board.
In my humble, and personal, opinion, I think we should sign Mr G, if only to provoke some thought in Barton's head on how to be a proper professional, and show the even younger lads what to avoid - long term it don't cost us much.
Could I now ask you to cast your minds back and ask you how you would (or did) react back then - Lake, White, Brightwell I, Brightwell D, Redmond, Stewart, REID, McMAHON, McNAB!!! I know that technology at the time of the above listing did not allow the speed of comment we enjoy today, but we were all for it, and (I believe) time has not changed things SO much that we should think anything else.
City to beat WBA and crack the day one duck. I can't be with you in person as I'm half way round the world, but scream encouragement to the Boss and the boys for me. Andy from Hyde - enjoy the game!
