Blues Stelios bid fails

26/ 8/2005

MANCHESTER City's hopes of signing Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos have been ended by the news the Greece international has signed a new three-year contract at the Reebok Stadium.

City had tabled a £1million bid for the Euro 2004 winner, who joined Bolton from Olympiacos two years ago.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce told the club’s official website: “We have been working hard behind the scenes to get this agreed and I’m delighted that we can put all the speculation behind us.

“Throughout, Stelios has been very professional and he can now look forward to playing his best football at Bolton.

“I was concerned earlier this week that we might have lost him but in the end he always wanted to stay loyal to me and the club. He is a terrific little player and a real match-winner.

“I hope we can move on now and try to add to the squad before the transfer window closes next week.”

My reaction on reading this was not bothered as I am sure it will be for most City fans. The age of the player obviously comes into it but also I don't think he would make that much of a difference to our side. I think if City had made him a good enough offer he would have signed . For deluded Bolton fans you need to ask yourselves why he didn't sign before if he was so enamoured by the only team to play in the Premiership on a cobbled pitch. As for the manyoo clowns its hardly worth wasting words on them but some do spring to mind, knuckle draggers, glory hunters and oh you've not been too succesful at signing players yourselves have you?Not so good for such a MASSIVE club. Yee haa.

What is this excellent piece of news? I'm delighted Stelios has decided to sign a new contract. now we can concentrate on getting somebody in who is actually a decent player.
