Taxis

There are two types of legal taxis in Manchester.  Hackney Cabs - also known as black cabs - and private hire/mini cabs.  Manchester black cabs are licensed by the local council, can be hailed in the streets and can use designated taxi tanks.  They carry five persons and some are suitable for disabled passengers.

For more information telephone Mantax on 0161 230 3333 or Taxiphone on 0161 236 9974.

Mini cabs are four door saloons, which must be phoned up and booked in advance and are usually cheaper.  They cannot use taxi ranks and cannot be hailed in the streets.

Warning: any vehicle without licence plates and purporting to be a taxi is not insured and is illegal.
