Odd and interesting museum housed in former tunnels carved out of the soft red sandstone.  These were designed to protect thousands of people for prolonged periods of time from the threat of German air attack.  The visit involves a descent into the 1940s gloom to experience the sights and sounds of the Home Front in authentically reconstructed tunnels.  There are special explorer tours which penetrate deeper into the network and involve hard hats, lamps and sensible shoes.  Ring ahead for the times of these.  Souvenirs and wartime memorabilia on sale.

Toilets, shop, group and school visits, disabled access, guided tours, events.
