THOSE looking outside London for a domestic holiday are plumping for Edinburgh as the best alternative destination.
The Scottish capital was far and away the most popular second-city tourist spot in a survey by www.hotels.com.
The survey looked at a favourite destination for locals outside their capital city.

For Britons, second after Edinburgh was Bath, followed by Oxford, Manchester, Glasgow and Bristol.
For the French the best destination apart from Paris was Lyon followed by Nice, Lille and Strasbourg. Italians wanting to give Rome a miss plumped for Milan, followed by Venice, Florence and Pisa.
Spaniards tired of Madrid particularly liked Valencia, followed by Granada, Seville and Bilbao, while Germans opted for Hamburg followed by Frankfurt, Cologne and Dusseldorf.
Attraction
For Americans who opted not to visit either New York or Washington DC, the main attraction was Las Vegas, followed by Miami, San Francisco and Chicago.
