Holidays 'a let-down' for many

ALMOST half of those on a break feel let down by their holiday, according to a recent study.

And 40% say just researching and booking their trip is a major cause of stress, a poll from holiday exchange company RCI found.

Nearly four in five holidaymakers have suffered flight delays, nearly 30% have experienced "terrible food" at their resort, 25% have endured noisy neighbours while away and 20% have had poor facilities.

The survey of 1,700 people also found:

44% feel let down by their holiday, claiming it did not match their expectations

Britons spend an average of £1,473 a year on holidays, or £76,570 over a lifetime

31% spend two weeks weighing up the pros and cons of a break before booking

54% of holiday decisions are made by women

53% take between two and three holidays a year.

RCI managing director Jonathan Mindell said: "It's really shocking that so many Brits experience stress and anxiety while booking their holidays, especially when so many also feel let down after their travels.

"When you look at how much we spend on holidays over a lifetime - nearly three times the average UK salary - you can see why it is important that the holiday experience is enjoyable, stress-free and memorable for all the right reasons."
